Hi Unfortunately I have a pretty old phone now i , it does have a memory card though so I can backup by moving everything to that then using the card-reader to copy the files to the computer. In reply to ziggler’s post on December 8, Only the relevant decision makers in Nokia can say why, but anyone can always speculate Presumably it hasn’t been done simply because of limited budget and resources allocated for PC software development at Nokia, with little payback expected especially for a free app anyway. The desktop Linux user base is still quite a bit smaller than that of Windows, I imagine.
Perhaps even less than the number of Mac users? What level it has to rise to, I don’t know. In any case, since Nokia is not in the business of selling PC Suite, but phones, the investement required to develop a PC Suite for Linux must then be tied to additional phone sales. And what to some extent seems to have worked with Apple is to cooperate with the manufacturer so that their own solution iSync works more or less. Which, doesn’t mean Nokia couldn’t be the first.
I just want to know if there are any at all now. In reply to petrib’s post on December 8, But with the principle of Linux being open source they could release the source code either openly to the whole community or to a select group of coders to get it converted.
That wouldn’t cost them a bean! The PC Suite is already a free-to-download-and-use windows application, all they need to do is add the source-code to their download pages and I too am sure that the linux enthusiasts out there will jump on it and convert it.
Linux is getting bigger, more and more people I know are turning to it now it’s getting to be as user-friendly as windows. By the way, Nokia can not say they don’t use Linux, I believe one of their ‘palm’ products runs it as a base OS!!
I dont have the information to hand on precisely which model, I saw it on the IBM website earlier, Ill post it when I find it again! I believe it is the tablet which has no GSM and i believe it does not connect to the pc sutie. Forget about Nokia for windows where IPhone it is. This site in other languages x.
